A private visit to Dobell House at Wangi Wangi on Lake Macquarie was arranged for Tuesday 25th August
Beautiful weather and a happy group made
for a very enjoyable excursion on Tuesday
25th August .
In the end 36 artists and friends boarded the
coach for the journey north to Wangi Wangi.
A goody bag of chocolates for the journey
was given to everyone on boarding.
Morning tea on arrival at Dobell House at
10.30 was supplied by the volunteers and
followed by a 90 min presentation.
This outlined Sir William Dobell’s career and
life and included an hilarious reconstruction
of the trial concerning his Archibald winning
painting of Joshua Smith. (Ian Parker
reluctantly took on the role of Sir Bill).
There was the opportunity to visit his studio
upstairs and peruse the contents of the
house and garden.
Following lunch and a wander around Wangi
and picturesque Lake Macquarie we took a
small detour to see the 2 magnificent stained
glass windows in St Joseph’s Catholic
Church near Toronto.
Louise Surmon won the” lucky name tag
prize” – a bottle of Prosecco (yes, her again!).
Back to Turramurra at 3.30.
Many thanks to Charmaine for organising
such an enjoyable day!
Please send any ideas for future excursions
to Charmaine.
