The Third Eye Story
“.. It is 1979, I am in my early career as an exhibiting painter, illustrator and graphic designer. I am doing…good work and steadily improving my art when author Betty Edwards’ book “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” bursts on to the world stage.
I read [devour] it, I do the exercises, I get it totally instantly and everything in my professional life is utterly changed.
It is as if I found a of magical pair of spectacles. Overnight I am seeing my painting and drawing subjects with total clarity of form and rendering their likeness with other world accuracy [ modest lol!].
For the last seven years I have run regular 3rdi Painting Classes Saturday and Monday in my home studio at Newport Beach and I calculate that to this point, 2018 I have ‘initiated’ up to three hundred painters in 3rdi Painting. “
Workshop Program:
In this workshop, Ted will share with us the theory and practicalities of ‘Painting in the Third Eye’.
This will unlock the door to the revolutionary art techniques unique to the 3rdi painter.
- Be brought to see that what one’s eyes see is at best an inkling of reality.
- Develop true vision and clear visual perception.
- Learn to paint with the body and feel a painting on the canvas.
- Discover the secrets to successful picture composition.
- Learn to make every brush stroke count, and to have a ‘finished’ painting at every stage.
- Realise the visual power that lies within acuate appreciation of tonal values together with colour relationships and their physiological influences.
This workshop is ideal for oils or acrylic painting.
It is great for beginners and experienced artists alike. I’m sure that you will come away with some new skills, and a new way of looking at your world and capturing it on canvas.

I am an Abstract Impressionist.
As a primary school kid I was always drawing. In secondary school my art teacher was great Australian artist Ian Bow. ‘Bowie’ was definitely my first important influence in aesthetics, art for art’s sake and [post] impressionism. The skill he developed in my painting and together with this knowledge of art’s power, won me a place at RMIT University. Art School.
RMIT-So many wonderful teachers -many great and famous names. Giant among even them was great Australian Impressionist William [Jock] Frater who set my brush style and access to aerial perspective which I will die with.
I graduated in Painting and Illustration and proceeded to establish and endure as an elite Illustrator, Award Winning, Exhibiting Painter/Graphic designer/art and film director.
Now some decades later having drawn and painted the 10,000 things, I find the commercial modes of my creative life have stepped aside and deferred to the Fine art exhibiting Impressionist painting stream. And really it’s about time.
