The Program

  • One Day WorkshopMellissa has been working as a professional artist since moving to Sydney in 1999. She is recipient of  awards and a finalist in many prestigious shows  and is a successful exhibitor in galleries and shows around Australia and overseas. A painter of lively impressionistic works in a signature style, Mellissa is an enthusiastic tutor who is passionate about inspiring creativity and excellence in her students.

    Mellissa is keen to help you be able to find your own style and will encourage you to paint bolder, and brighter. The local landscape in acrylic will be demonstrated, but  students are welcome to bring their own pieces or photographs that that personally inspire.

    Bright colours, big brushstrokes, vibrant and fun. From beginners to more advanced artists.

Materials

  • Workshop – Mellissa Read-Devine1-2 stretched Canvasses  depending on size

    Minimum size 30”x30”, maximum  whatever you can fit in your car –  your own choice of shape

    I would suggest you already seal your canvas with at least one coat of gesso to save time.

    Acrylic Paint (I use mainly Matisse Structure, but you can bring what you have)

    White

    Naples Yellow

    2 different yellows

    Cad red or Equivalent

    1 of following: Alizarin, Magenta, Red Violet or Rose Madder

    1 of following: Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Teal/aqua, Cobalt Blue

    Ultramarine or Pthalo Blue

    2 of your favourite complementary colours – purple/orange/bright green

    Brushes

    Synthetic preferred – 1 type of brush – filbert, bright/flat or round

    In assorted sizes eg. 12/10/8/6

    Small brush for detail

    Old round brush approx size 10/12

    Larger brushes – eg cheap hake or small painters brushes

     

    Water spray

    Palette knife (for mixing paint)

    Plastic card eg. old Library card

    Palette – the flatter the better, white plastic plates are good.

    • If painting large – bring some small plastic pots/recycled tins to put paint in

    Rags

    Apron

    Hairdryer (optional)

     

    Image references/photos

    Paper & soft pencil/charcoal for sketches

     

    Optional:             Acrylic mediums, oil pastels

Melissa Read Devine MRD

Melissa Read-Devine was born in England in the 1960s and as a child emigrated to Australia with her family. She has studied & practiced printmaking and painting continuously for the past 14 years and is a recipient of many prizes and awards. Her Artwork is part of many private and public collections around the world.
Living in rural Sydney overlooking the Hawkesbury River, Mellissa’s work ranges between vibrant interpretations of her local landscape to intricate wood & linocuts. Her combination of quirkiness and calm blend to create works with a strong spiritual base. A ‘born again’ Christian, Mellissa tries to live her faith and gives God the glory for every achievement.

A founding member of the Hawkesbury Artisans Trail, Mellissa continues to work promoting creativity in the local community and works as artist, tutor & illustrator.
