Martin_Campbell_1A fresh approach to a much loved subject – an oil painting workshop that explores the endless possibilities a sky can offer to the modern painter.

In this workshop we will look at some different skies and what makes them a good subject for a painting. Participants are also encouraged to bring images of their own skies to discuss and potentially paint.

I will demonstrate two small sky studies prior to morning tea and then the participants can start on their own paintings from their own reference or some of my ones. The idea of these paintings is to be quite quick and spontaneous and the idea is not to dwell on them for too long, much like a Plein Air style of approach. I can then assist individuals from there with their own paintings.

I will be painting on square timber panels that I pre prime with a gesso. I get these from the Sydney Art Store at Waterloo however Parkers in the Rocks also stock these or other art stores also have them. It is not essential to have these timber panels as a canvas panel or stretched canvas will also be fine. I would encourage everyone to try and get a square support however as this is a great shape for the modern look.
